Kawah Putih Ciwidey : Beautiful White Crater Lake

Kawah Putih (English : white crater) Ciwidey located in approximately 46 km southern Bandung city, West Java, Indonesia. It formed by the active volcano of Mount Patuha, situated 2,343 meters above sea level. This crater was formed between the 10th to 12th centuries by the eruption of Mount Patuha.

Kawah Putih Ciwidey seems looks like a lake surrounded by mountains. The water is warm and has a high sulfur content, and the sunshine frequently change the color of the water from milky white into bluish green. But commonly the water colored white with a high volume smoking haze above land surface. Beside the crater, sand and stone around it also dominated in white, that's why it named with Kawah Putih (white crater). It's a stunning natural attraction.

At Kawah Putih, you can also find a number of stalls selling bandrek, a traditional Sundanese beverage made from ginger and palm brown sugar. This beverage is highly suitable for cold weather, as drinking bandrek will warm your body.

Ujung Kulon National Park

Ujung Kulon National Park is located at the western-most tip of Java, Banten, Indonesia. It includes the volcanic island group of Krakatoa and other islands including Panaitan, Handeuleum and Peucang. The park encompasses an area of 1,206 km² (443 km² marine), most of which lies on a peninsula reaching into the Indian Ocean. The explosion of nearby Krakatau in 1883 produced a tsunami (giant wave) that eliminated the villages and crops of the coastal areas on the western peninsula, and covered the entire area in a layer of ash about 30 cm thick. This caused the total evacuation of the peninsula by humans, thereby allowing it to become a repository for much of Java’s flora and fauna, and most of the remaining lowland forest on the island.

Javan Rhinoceros

It is Indonesia's first proposed national park and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 for containing the largest remaining lowland rainforest in Java. It is also one of only two homes of the critically endangered Javan Rhinoceros. A population of fifty to sixty live in Ujung Kulon, a smaller population of possibly 10 or less, live in Cat Tien National Park, Vietnam. The park protects 57 rare species of plant. The 35 species of mammal include Banteng, Silvery Gibbon, Javan Lutung, Crab-eating Macaque, Leopard, Java Mouse-deer and Rusa Deer. There are also 72 species of reptiles and amphibians, and 240 species of birds.

Parts of today's national park and World Heritage site have been protected since the early 20^th century. Karakatoa Island was declared a Nature Reserve in 1921, followed by Pulau Panaitan and Pulau Peucang Nature Reserve in 1937. The Ujung Kulon Nature Reserve has been established in 1958 followed by the Gunung Honje Nature Reserve in 1967. Ujung Kulon National Park has been established in 1992. Pangandaran Beach

Pangandaran is a small town and a subdistrict in southern Ciamis regency, West Java, Indonesia. It is located on the southern coast of Java. Pangandaran is a popular tourist destination, having a beach which is considered to be one of the finest in Java and which offers excellent surfing.

A kite-flying festival is held on the beach in July each year. Locals regularly use kites in the evenings to catch bats,which are either eaten or used in Chinese remedies. There is a local belief that wearing any green garment in this area will anger Loro Kidul, the Javanese guardian spirit or goddess of the southern sea, and will bring misfortune.

The Penanjung Pangandaran nature reserve is nearby on a peninsula connected to the mainland by a narrow neck of land. About eighty percent of the nature reserve is secondary rainforest. The flora of the nature reserve includes the Rafflesia.

Green Canyon (Cukang Taneuh)

Green Canyon name was popularized by a France tourist in 1993. Actually the original name of this lovely place is Cukang Taneuh, meaning Land Bridge. It because, over the valley and slopes of Green Canyon, there is a land bridge used by farmers around the Canyon to go to their farms.

Indonesia Green Canyon is located in Kertayasa village, Cijulang subdistric Ciamis regency, West of Java. Its distance is approximately 130 km from Ciamis city or 31 km from Pangandaran. There are Batukaras tourist resort and Nusawiru airport nearby.

This wonderful tourist resort is actually a flow of Cijulang river that goes through a cave full of enchanted stalaktif and stalakmit. The area is also flanked by two hills, also with many rocks and grove of trees. All shall make a nature painting, so unique and so challenging to be explored.

To reach this tourist resort, we shall depart from Ciseureuh small port. Then continue the journey by pedal boats which are many available there.  The distance between the port and the Green Canyon is about 3 km that can be traveled within 30-45 minutes. Along the journey we shall sail on the tosca green colored river. Perhaps, that is why it is called Green Canyon.

When you see the cascade with narrow flow that is hardly passed through by boat, it means you have arrived at the mouth of Green Canyon, where the water is so clear colored in aquamarine. Here the adventure of exploring the beauty of this object begins. Tourist can continue the journey up by swimming or by crawling on the stone edges. Tires and buoys are provided there for ones who choose swimming. The safety is fully guaranteed, even for 6 years-old children up, it is safe enough to down the river flow by tires and lead by the rent-boat owner.

For those who really want to enjoy the beauty of Green Canyon must understand its season. The best time to enjoy this tourism is some times after entering the dry season. In rainy season, the river color will become brown and the flow is racing along.
